Sustainability

Modern methods of construction require the use of sustainable materials and a more holistic design philosophy.

Examples of this within the company are

  • the incorporation of gabion foundations
  • the design of rammed earth walls
  • the design of walls incorporating used tyres
  • the design of straw bale external walls
  • the design of de-mountable structures
  • the use of second hand structural steel sections
  • the design of unfired clay block walls
  • the incorporation of sedum roofs
  • the design of laminated sweet chestnut beams
  • the design and certification of timber framed buildings

Graduate Show, Brighton University

Special eco house project, Brighton University

The Graduate Show project uses many examples of sustainable construction, such as straw bale walls, rammed chalk walls and reused surplus roof joists.

This project involves constructing a replica of 'The House That Kevin Built', which was a building constructed by Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs fame using many sustainable design features.
